How to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Lucid Lynx, Destop edition from Ubuntu 9.10, Karmic Koala via Internet

This method is also known as Network upgrade. Before starting the Upgrade process, I would strongly suggest you to take backups of the relevant files - /var/www/ content, /home/user config files etc. Now, in order to upgrade go to System -> Administration -> Update Manager. And press the check button to check for the latest updates.

If it shows that you have some updates to install, then install them and again press check. Now, you should see a button on the top right corner showing you that a new Ubuntu release is available. It will look something like this.

Press Upgrade. Now, you will see the release notes

Click Upgrade to begin the upgrade finally.

Enjoy Lucid! :D

Minor fix: Update manager is located under System->Administration->Update Manager, not System->Preferences->Update Manager Otherwise, thanks for the article.

Well, I did just that, but the message I get is upgrade to 8.10 is available if non-LTS version is enabled in the software sources, and no message if not enabled. What is the problem? anyway to fix it?
