Version 0.7 takes SuperTuxKart to a whole new level

Lock and load people, its time for a new SuperTuxKart. Yup! I am still not finished with it :). When I wrote the last post, I was playing and talking about the version(0.6.2) which was in the repositories of Ubuntu 10.10. After checking on their project homepage, I realized that the recent version 0.7 has already been out since December last year. This release comes with a lot of improvements and new features - new maps,  challenges, a complete new interface and not to forget a new player “pidgin”.

The developers have tried to make it more addictive and interesting by locking various features. Since, its an opensource game, in order to unlock you have to play rather than pay ;). The more challenges you complete, more maps are unlocked. This is pretty addictive and will keep you going until you finish all of them.

And, btw those trophies mean I have completed the levels .

Install SuperTuxKart 0.7 on Ubuntu

You’ll have to add the ppa of stk dev. team on Launchpad. Either run the following command.

[shredder12]$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stk/dev

or, add the following line into the /etc/apt/sources.list file.

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/stk/dev/ubuntu YOUR_UBUNTU_VERSION_HERE main

Replace YOUR_UBUNTU_VERSION_HERE with maverick for 10.10, lucid for 10.04 and so on. For help, install software through ppa on Ubuntu.

Now, run an update

[shredder12]$ sudo apt-get update

[shredder12]$ sudo apt-get install supertuxkart

This should update/install the latest supertuxkart on your system.
