SuperTuxKart - Race with the Giants

I never really thought a game with the name “supertuxkart” could be this good. Putting aside its the racing part, the most fun I had was blowing up a kart named “OpenBSD” with puffy driving it  while mine kart, named “Powered by GNU/Linux”, was driven by Tux. Not just these, you get to see wilber from gimp, php’s elephant, even mozilla. The idea of using open source projects’ mascots as players makes this game marvellous.

You should know that SuperTuxKart is not just about plain racing. As I have already mentioned, you get to blow other karts . All of these powers(assuming its the right word) come from goodies that you collect while racing(they look like packaged gift boxes). They give you different kind of abilities- speed boost, bowling ball, a cupcake bomb, bubble gum - to slow your followers down etc. Apart from these goodies, you have

• Nitros - for speed boost, and
• Beware of the banana peels. You will find them all over the track and you never know what kind of trouble they'll get you into once you slip
• And of course, once you use your bubblegum power, don’t think that it will just fade away. It’s a fair chance you’ll be the one stuck on it on your next lap ;).

On the version of SuperTuxKart I have been playing - 0.6.2 - you get to choose from 10 different players for racing on 12 different tracks. There is a new version available though - SuperTuxKart 0.7.

Bottom line - give it a try, its a lot of fun.
