SuperTux - A Super Mario Bros Clone
So, I finally found some time to look for more classical games’ clones on linux. After the brilliant Granatier - the Bomberman clone, I looked for mario and what do you know, there is one available. And guess what? The role of mario is played by our loving Tux, the penguin. The game is “SuperTux".
SuperTux is a clone of Super Mario Bros. One of the main thing that differs, and by differ I mean intelligently modified, is the environment. Since, the lead is played by Tux, the whole scenario is based on Antarctica.
The demons are only different in appearance; they more or less do the same thing. Instead of the tortoise, it has ice-cube shaped creeps which do a similar job. In later stages, you get to see a flying weirdo, bouncing skulls, guarding bombs, wallking leaves, even a laughing tree (creepiest dude as far as this game goes) and a lot others.
And yeah, you get an egg instead of a mushroom to grow.
Under the section “contrib level”, you can explore different worlds. One of them being a forest map. I don’t know why, I played a lot better in forest stage than all the other icy ones. Porbably, some leftover from the good old Contra days
.
Anyway, the time spent playing this game is totally worth the fun. If you are looking for some mario magic on Linux, I would suggest you go for SuperTux2. Its brilliant!
