Its time for Multi-touch on Ubuntu - uTouch for Unity

I guess most of us would have tried Ubuntu 10.10 aka Maverick Meerkat by now. This version was no doubt going to bring many new things but the one I was really looking forward to is the netbook edition. We have been looking at Shuttleworth's constant efforts to make the netbook edition more usable - Increasing vertical space by using a global menu, using a single panel instead of one, a whole new unity shell interface and a lot others. And after finally trying it out, I have to say its brilliant.

The interface is heavily optimized for small screen computers and we shouldn't forget Shuttleworth's aim of bringing Ubuntu to tablets. And there, the one thing it needs most is the multi-touch capability. Meerkat comes with a uTouch stack, which is a multi-touch library for the unity shell interface.

Since, there are not many device available to try it out, not many are aware of it. The guys at canonical knew about it, so they created a small video showing the capabilities of this new multi-touch library on Ubuntu netbook's unity interface.

Here it is.
