iPhone owns three times Android's mobile market share

With all speculations being made these days about the ongoing war between Android and iPhone, it seems that Android still has a long way to go. A report published by the research firm Nielsen shows that iPhone owns three times more market share than Android.

This report compares the stats of 2009's last quarter with this year's first and the result show a 2% increase in both Android's and iPhone's market share. Android now stands with a share of 9 percent with iPhone at 28 percent. The mobile market is still owned by Blackberry which by the way saw a decline by 2 percent along with Windows mobile.

Another interesting fact shown in the report is that iPhone and Android users are pretty happy with the OS they are using, iPhone users being the most loyal, with 80 percent users wanting their next device to be running iPhone OS. 70 percent Android users want to stick with Android.

There are news about Android v/s iPhone everyday but its interesting to note that other major share holders, Blackberry and Windows mobile, are loosing their market share. Not just that, it seems their users are also looking to have a change from their next smartphone, only 47 percent of Blackberry and 34 percent of Windows mobile users would want to continue with the same OS.

We all hear about the fast growing Google's Android operating system but lets face it, it still has a lot of work to do. I am not sure about the other two but iPhone is not going away anytime soon.
