GIMP's Van Gogh filter - Does something that nobody understands
There has been a recent discussion on the gimp-dev mailing list about the removal of Van Gogh filter from the upcoming releases. It later drifted towards what kind of plugins/filters should be removed/kept, criteria etc. Anyway, the whole time I kept thinking what Van Gogh does(or doesn't do good, because its being removed). And when I finally tried it out, I could hardly understand a thing from the configuration options. The answer to all the questions came rushing when I read the tooltip - "Special effects that nobody understands"
. It could be a joke or easter-egg from the author, but its good to know that I am not the only one ;).

I guess, its probably becuase they want the startup time to be faster. There are a lot of features in GIMP and someone must be using one or the other, but bundling all of them into a single app increases its loading time a lot. So, probably thats why they are trying to come up with a priority list of most commonly used features and provide other in the form of separate plugins. And yes, I too am keenly waiting for the next major release of GIMP.
