Android 2.2, Froyo, will support Connection Sharing
It seems the upcoming major release of Android, version 2.2 aka Froyo, is coming with a whole bunch of amazing new features. According to Techcrunch, this new release will provide you with the capability of sharing 3G connection on your Android phone with your laptop and you can even use your Android as a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Currently the carriers supporting connection sharing are Verizon's MiFi and Sprint's Tethering, but you need to pay additional monthly charges to get those services. Its not yet confimed whether carriers running Android will charge an extra fee or not.
These are not just the two reasons which make Froyo awesome (did I mention it rocks
). You would already be pretty aware about the inclusion of Flash in Android, as reported by nytimes. And if Adobe is right on track then we might even get a taste of hardware acceleration enabled flash for Android platform soon. Although Apple has kicked flash right out of their mobile devices, Google has accepted Flash on both its Chrome browser and Android. The users might not want battery sucking app. but still a lot of content on web is flash based and they definitely wouldn't want to miss them.
Another major improvement is the reported 450 percent performance increase in Android 2.2. Multitasking and media capabilities in Android will get a boost because of such a high improvement.
Some additional features will include the support for automatic update of applications. And its possible that Android 2.2 will be supporting applicaiton installation on an external SD card.
With all these improvements and new features, Android 2.2 seems to be very promising and way faster than ever. We have already seen the first quarter results showing Android devices holding 2nd place in overall sales beating iPhone by 7 percent. And with these promising features in Froyo, its easy to predict drastic improvements in those sales figures in the later part of this year.
